Paragraph - Adolescence
Adolescence
Adolescence is a changing stage of physical and
physiological development that happens during the period between childhood and
adulthood. It is quite true that adolescence is the pivotal
phase in any human’s development and growth. Physical, emotional, mental, and
attitudinal changes take place in this period. This is the age of stress and
aggression. Psychologists consider this phase in human development as the most
vulnerable period. If not handled properly, it can result in many unwanted and
undesirable complications. This phase is the phase of emotional turmoil in
which an adolescent feels quite confused. In
adolescence, girls and boys float in a very vibrant and fantasy world. Thus
everything looks vibrant to them. Adolescence may be a time of risk. Unlimited
freedom brings disasters for them. They rush to the path of destruction without
knowing the consequence. Gaining puberty and experiencing an
alteration in tone are the most common phenomena of this stage. Flourishing of
personality is introduced in this stage. The adolescents get emotional and find
his/her personal identity. It is also a time of considerable risks. Many
adolescents feel curious to use alcohol, cigarettes, or other drugs. Some of them
get involved in sexual relationships that put themselves at high risk for
injuries, pregnancies, STD and AIDS. Some of them may experience mental health
problems too. Adolescents are not fully capable of understanding complex
concepts and facing difficult situations. Such inability makes them
particularly vulnerable to sexual exploitation and high risk behaviours.
Families, communities, schools, health services and their workplaces should
help them learn a wide range of skills. These skills can help them cope with
the pressures they face. Thereby a successful transition from childhood to
adulthood may be possible. Parents and members of the community must be very
careful of them.
